Preventative Treatments

Preventative treatments help protect trees and shrubs before insects and diseases have a chance to take hold, reducing stress and costly damage later in the season. With the right timing, proactive applications can keep your landscape healthier and more resilient year after year.

The purpose of preventative treatments is to reduce the emergence and spread of insects and diseases that can harm trees and shrubs. Most preventative spray applications are best performed during the winter dormant period, when treatments can be applied effectively with less impact to the plant’s active growth cycle. Some preventative products, such as certain fungicides, can also be applied during the summer to provide ongoing protection when conditions favor disease. While the goal is prevention, some sprays may also control active issues depending on the product and timing. Horticultural oils and fungicides are highly effective tools when they are selected properly and applied under the right conditions.
